The Method
You probably care more about results than methods, and if you have a preference towards one method it is probably because you had less than satisfactory results with another method. The cleaning product being used can actually have a greater influence on results than the method. The product we developed and patented could be used with any method. We use the bonnet method because the conventional method subjects carpet to far more moisture than is necessary with our product.
Low moisture is preferable because carpet is very absorbent, and wet carpet is a breading ground for germs. We are able to clean an entire average size home with just two gallons, others would use about 40 gallons to clean the same area. Our average drying time is about 30 minutes simply because the carpet is not really wet.
Our method cleans carpet to the base of the fibers, this is the deepest any method is able to clean. Cleaning through the carpet backing with any method is ineffective at pulling dirt out, but very effective at leaving water in the carpet.
Residue is not an issue for us because our patented cleaning solution has no man made chemicals nor is it an oil base. This is an important difference between us and other low moisture cleaners. For others cleaning is only half the battle, the other half is removing the oil based and or alkaline cleaning products afterwards. Low moisture methods have earned a reputation as less effective by failing to remove the residue caused by their cleaning products. In the development of our patented product we addressed this issue with a very simple solution. By not putting anything in to it like oils or alkaline pH, we are able to eliminate half of the battle. Thus we don't leave a residue but are able to neutralize residue from other cleaners.
Our method consists of five steps they are:
Sweeping the edges: where the carpet meets the base board is an area that vacuums tend to miss. We remove debris from this area by sweeping it out with a broom.
Vacuum: we use a janitorial strength vacuum to remove debris before we begin cleaning.
Spray: we spray our cleaning product onto the carpet in a very fine mist taking care to spray more on spots and stains.
Buff: Using a bonnet (a thick flat round mop pad) set under a buffer. This provides agitation and absorption wiping each fiber from the base to the top from every side. With small amounts of moisture absorption is more effective than suction.
Rake: After cleaning we rake the carpet using a nylon tongued rake to stand the fibers up. This promotes rapid drying and helps us to see if a spot needs more work.
This method may be quit different from what you are familiar with. It has been our experience that some skepticism about our method is based on erroneous assumptions about how the conventional method works. We hope this explanation will clear up some confusion.
